Clearing the cache fixes a surprising number of problems: endless loading screens, missing textures, invisible objects and odd crashes after a server update. The catch is that deleting the wrong folder makes you download several gigabytes of game files again. Here is the safe way.
Quick fix: close the game, open the data folder and delete server-cache, server-cache-priv and the browser and subprocess folders inside cache. Keep cache\game.
When clearing the cache helps
- You are stuck on a loading screen, or it hangs while downloading server content.
- Textures or whole objects are missing, or you fall through the ground.
- A server updated and something that used to work now doesn’t.
- The game crashes in the same spot every time on one server.
It won’t fix problems caused by weak hardware or a broken server resource, but it is always the first thing to try.
Step 1: Close the game completely
Quit the game and the launcher. Files that are in use can’t be deleted cleanly.
Step 2: Open the data folder
Press Windows + R, paste this path and press Enter:
%localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app\data
You can also right-click the desktop shortcut, choose Open file location and open the data folder from there.
Step 3: Delete only these folders
cache\browsercache\subprocessserver-cache(if it contains agamefolder, keep that one)server-cache-privnui-storage(optional: this also resets menu settings some servers save on your PC)
Keep this folder
Do not delete cache\game. It holds the core game files and is several gigabytes in size. If you remove it, the client has to download everything again. If you are unsure about any other folder, leave it.
Step 4: Restart and rejoin
Start the game. The first launch after clearing takes a bit longer while the cache rebuilds, and when you join a server it downloads that server’s content again. That is normal and only happens once.
Still not fixed?
- Blurry or missing textures: follow our texture loss fix.
- Only one server is affected: the problem may be on the server side. Tell the staff which area or vehicle causes it.
Running your own server? Many cache problems start with heavy or broken content. Add-ons built with reasonable file sizes, like our FiveM compatible MLOs and car packs, keep those reports down.
