Add-On Car Not Spawning? 8 Causes and How to Fix Each

Add-On Car Not Spawning?

You added a new car, restarted the server, typed the spawn command and nothing happened. Or the car shows up invisible, without textures, or it spawns but never appears in your dealership. Almost every case comes down to one of the causes below. Work through them in order.

Quick check: open the server console and the client F8 console right after you try to spawn. An error message there usually points straight to the cause.

1. The resource isn’t started

The folder name must match the line in your server.cfg exactly, for example ensure my_car. If the console can’t find the resource, check for typos and for an extra folder level, such as my_car/my_car/fxmanifest.lua.

2. You’re using the wrong spawn name

The spawn name is the modelName in the car’s vehicles.meta, not the folder name or the product title. Open the file and search for <modelName>.

3. The meta files aren’t loaded

Your fxmanifest.lua must load the meta files with data_file lines, for example data_file 'VEHICLE_METADATA_FILE' 'vehicles.meta', plus the handling, carvariations and carcols files if the car has them. The same files must also be listed under files. Without them the model is never registered and can’t be spawned by name.

4. Model files are in the wrong place

The .yft and .ytd files belong in the stream folder. Files left in the root of the resource are not streamed.

5. Two resources use the same name

If two cars share a model name, one overrides the other and you may spawn the wrong car or a broken one. Search your resources for the name and rename one of them in all of its files.

6. The car needs a newer game build

Some add-ons use parts that only exist in newer game builds. On an older build they spawn invisible or with missing parts. Check the product notes and your sv_enforceGameBuild setting.

7. Tuning parts conflict

If the car spawns but the tuning menu crashes or shows the wrong parts, two cars probably share a modkit ID. See our guide on fixing modkit ID conflicts.

8. Your garage or dealership doesn’t know the car

If an admin spawn works but the car is missing from the dealership or can’t be stored, add it to that script’s config or database. Every framework handles this a little differently.

After you fix it

Restart the resource or the server, and clear your client cache if you replaced files that keep the same name. If the car spawns but vanishes at a distance, see fixing vehicles disappearing at a distance.
